Chief of Staff Presides Over Inception Meeting for New Conservation Policy

Nairobi, 25th August 2024 – The Chief of Staff and Head of the Public Service presided over the Inception Meeting for the development of Kenya's Integrated Ecosystem-Based Natural Resource Conservation Policy at the Serena Hotel, Nairobi. This pivotal meeting marks the beginning of a comprehensive approach to conserving Kenya's rich biodiversity and natural heritage.

In his address, the Chief of Staff highlighted the importance of this policy, noting that it represents a significant shift towards a sustainable future. He stated, "This gathering is a significant step towards a sustainable future, reflecting our collective commitment to conserving Kenya’s natural heritage for generations to come."

The Chief of Staff further emphasised the need for a unified approach to conservation, addressing the fragmentation of policies that has previously hindered effective resource management. "The current conservation challenges demand a paradigm shift to an ecosystem-based approach," he remarked, underscoring the policy's aim to integrate efforts at local, national, and private sector levels.

Key objectives of the policy include the harmonisation of existing policies, stakeholder engagement, the establishment of an integrated governance framework, and enhancing community resilience. "By fostering collaboration and embracing science-driven solutions, we can transcend the challenges of natural resource conservation and climate change to create a resilient and thriving nation for generations to come," the Chief of Staff concluded.

The meeting gathered key stakeholders, including government officials, development partners, and conservation experts, to review the Inception Report and provide feedback on the proposed policy framework. This initiative is expected to play a crucial role in achieving Kenya's sustainable development goals, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, forestry, and fisheries.
