Strengthening Kenya's Regulatory Framework -HOPs address at the Interactive and Consultative Conference, Mombasa

The Chief of Staff hosted a conference at Kenya School of Government, Mombasa, which focused on revitalising the role of regulatory entities crucial to the nation's wellbeing. Over two days, the discussions highlighted the importance of effective regulations in ensuring societal well-being, fairness in business operations, and the protection of public interests. Overall, the Chief of Staff spoke tough demanding that regulatory agencies take their space and perform to make government to work.
He underscored the government's commitment to reinstating the standing of regulators, aiming to build trust and credibility, which in turn would boost investment and inclusive growth. The conference's theme, "Regulatory Authorities and Agencies as Critical Agents in Achieving the Kenya Kwanza Promise," was particularly praised. He acknowledged that while challenges exist, including inefficiency and public trust erosion, recent regulatory actions have shown promise. The establishment of audit and compliance mechanisms and standing committees in state departments are steps towards continuous performance monitoring and accountability.
The Chief of Staff called for a multi-agency approach to overcome operational overlaps, prioritising preventive strategies and reducing corruption risks. He urged regulators to focus on their mandates, use resources effectively, and leverage technology to enhance regulatory functions. Emphasising good governance, he reminded agencies to remain vigilant against political interference and maintain transparency and accountability. He welcomed the proposal for a framework to oversee regulatory mandates, aiming to enhance regulatory quality and reform. He concluded by encouraging collaboration and dedication to achieving the Kenya Tuitakayo, ensuring a regulatory environment marked by integrity, efficiency, and accountability.
