HOPS Joins Principal Secretaries to Close the Ethics and Leadership Course at National Defence College

Karen, 2nd July 2024– The Chief of Staff and Head of the Public Service officially closed the Ethics and Leadership for National Security Course for Principal Secretaries at the National Defence College in Karen.

He began by observing that, the course, developed in collaboration with the National Defence University (NDU) - Kenya, represents a significant milestone for the Public Service and was aimed at enhancing ethical standards and leadership capabilities among senior government officers.

Mr. Felix Koskei expressed his gratitude to the Chief of Defence Forces and other esteemed officers who contributed to organising the training programme. He emphasised the importance of the "Whole of Government Approach," a key principle chosen by H.E the President for managing the country's affairs.

Further, he observed that the selection of NDU-Kenya for this specific course was a deliberate decision, recognising its mandate and impressive track record in national security. The institution's curriculum, covering areas such as counter-terrorism, conflict resolution, and disaster management, equips participants with essential skills to address complex security challenges. The Chief of Staff underscored the relevance and timeliness of ethics, leadership, and national security for the Executive, especially in today's dynamic and competitive environment that Kenya finds herself in.

He highlighted the necessity for ethical behaviour in public service, which is crucial for maintaining public trust and national security. The Chief of Staff urged Principal Secretaries to adhere to constitutional values, manage public resources responsibly, and lead with integrity to ensure a secure and prosperous Kenya. Finally, he congratulated the participants on successfully completing the course and encouraged them to apply their knowledge and skills to advance the nation's security and uphold constitutional values.
